BSQ Statement Regarding Confiscation Order Related to Jian Wen

In response to recent media reports concerning the recent confiscation order imposed on Jian Wen, the solicitor for Yadi Zhang/Zhimin Qian, Roger Sahota comments as follows:

"Ms. Zhang denies all allegations of money laundering. At her trial later this year she will say that the BTC currently held by authorities does not represent the proceeds from any criminal activity. She maintains that her business dealings in China were legitimate and asserts she did not misappropriate investors' funds. The evidence from China will be tested vigorously.”

In response to comments by Lord Lamont in The Times on January 26th, urging the Chancellor to immediately spend the funds from the Government-held BTC, Mr. Sahota stated:

'It is entirely inappropriate for there to be any decision on how the BTC linked to this case should be disposed of before the legal proceedings involving Ms Zhang are concluded.

It is also unfortunate that the CPS has commented on Jian Wen’s case before the outcome of Ms Zhang’s trial.

There should be no rush to judgment against Ms Zhang. She strongly contests the charges against her, and any decisions regarding the seized BTC must comply with the law and follow due process.'

Roger Sahota of BSQ acts for Yadi Zhang/Zhimin Qian. Ms Zhang’s trial is scheduled to begin on the 25th of September 2025. Media enquiries should be addressed to Tania@berkeleylegal.co.uk.
