Motoring Solicitor Costs

Knowing how much representation in court will cost at the outset of a case is important for our clients.

We try to provide fixed fees to our clients so that we can be transparent about we charge and there are no surprises. This means you can have some certainty about what the final costs of defending your case will be.

We also conduct work on a hourly basis and will discuss what type of funding arrangement best suits you when you instruct us. 

Trials

For trial in Excess Alcohol/Drug Driving cases we charge a Trial fixed fee of between £6000 plus VAT to £12,000 plus VAT depending on the level of representation required.

In other cases such as Driving Without Due Care or a Section 172 hearing – we charge a fixed fee of either £3000 or £6000 plus VAT depending on the level of representation required.

Our fixed fees quotes cover the cost of two Magistrates Court appearances including one trial date. It usually takes between 2 and 6 months for a case to get to trial.

Exceptional Hardship and Special Reasons Hearings

We charge a fixed fee of £2000 - £5000 plus VAT depending on the level of representation required (on the basis of one Magistrates court hearing only.)

Guilty Pleas

Fixed fees starting at £2000 - £5000 plus VAT depending on the level of representation required (on the basis of one Magistrates court hearing only.)

Written Representations

Sometimes we are instructed to write to the police or CPS typically pointing out a legal error in their decision to charge and asking them to discontinue the case. For drafting pre or post charge representations our fees are between £1,000 to £2,000 plus VAT depending on the complexity of the case.

Why Our Fixed Fee Quotes May Vary  

When deciding our charges we will have to consider the amount of work involved in your case. This depends in the complexity of the legal and factual issues it raises. If there are any unusual or exceptional factors arise such as consideration of large volumes of CCTV evidence or if we are instructed at short notice, for example the day before a court hearing we will provide you with an amended quote.

The costs of disbursement’s such as barristers fee or experts reports are an additional expense to any fixed fee quote. For travel outside the M25 we may ask for a payment towards travel costs.

The costs of an appeal or judicial review or reply to a prosecution review are not included in the fixed fee quote.

Who Will Represent You?

You will either be represented by one of our driving specialists led by Patrick O’Hanlon or by a barrister.

If we need to instruct a barrister we will discuss suitable candidates with you from our approved list of recommended barristers specialising in driving law. There may be additional charges if we have to instruct counsel, depending on the seniority of who we choose to instruct.
